A local court acquitted the K-Electric CEO and four others on Monday in a case pertaining to a citizen being electrocuted to death at a KE substation in Defence Housing Authority during the monsoon rains this year.
An additional district and sessions judge was hearing the case against KE CEO Moonis Alvi and four others at Karachi City Court.
The police submitted a report to change the status of the case to C-Class. According to the report, the parties have reached a settlement outside the court and the complainant no longer wishes to pursue legal action against KE authorities.
According to the police, 19-year-old Faizan was electrocuted to death on August 11 at a KE sub-station in DHA.
Convicted for murder
Separately, the West district model court convicted a man for the murder of his wife and handed him a life sentence.
Convict Israr was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his wife. He was also directed to pay Rs500,000 in blood money to the family of the deceased. Announcing the verdict, the court directed that Israr would be awarded an additional six months in prison if he failed to pay the blood money.
According to the police, Israr had strangled his wife to death.
TEO remanded
Meanwhile, a local court sent the Jamshed Town taluka education officer (TEO), accused in a bribery case, to jail on judicial remand till December 21.
Accused TEO Zakir Bhurguri was produced before the court, which sent him on judicial remand and directed the investigation officer to submit the case challan at the next hearing.
According to the police, Bhurghuri was caught red-handed while collecting a bribe of Rs20,000 from office assistant Azhar Bhutto. The accused TEO was arrested in the presence of the East judicial magistrate.
