The Sindh Cabinet on the request of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has approved a levy of Re1 per litre on bottled water and beverage companies in line with the government of Punjab.
The impact of this levy could not be known immediately as some big market players approached by Dawn showed their ignorance about the Sindh Cabinet decision.
However, the prices of various brands of mineral water available in 1.5-litre to six-litre have been increased in the last two to three weeks. The six-litre bottle of branded companies now costs Rs160 as compared to Rs140.
The rate of low-priced or unbranded six-litre bottle has been raised to Rs60 from Rs50 followed by a jump of Rs50 for a six-bottle crate of 1.5-litre.
