Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari declared Murad Ali Shah as the party’s nominee for the position of Sindh chief minister. Bhutto expressed confidence in the party’s ability to outperform its previous term, stating, “We will surpass our own achievements.”
Additionally, Bhutto revealed that PPP has selected Awais Shah as their choice for the Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, with Anthony Naveed nominated for the deputy speaker position.
This announcement follows the country’s 12th general elections held on February 8, which were marred by allegations of rigging and the suspension of cellular services. The newly elected members of the Sindh Assembly are scheduled to take their oath on Saturday, February 24, in the first session of the legislative assembly.
PPP secured a significant victory, winning a record 84 general seats in the Sindh Assembly. With the inclusion of reserved seats for women and minorities, PPP’s representation in the Sindh Assembly is expected to exceed 100 seats for the first time. Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori has approved the recommendation of Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Maqbool Baqar, summoning the inaugural session of the Sindh Assembly.
