The Power Division has urgently requested the disbursement of approximately Rs130 billion to cover subsidy payments for K-Electric and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK). This request, along with other supplementary grants from various ministries, is set for approval by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, to be chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
The Power Division’s foremost request is for an advance subsidy of Rs70 billion for K-Electric’s arrears, followed by Rs55 billion for tariff differential subsidy arrears of AJK. Additionally, a technical supplementary grant of Rs2.5 billion has been sought.
Other notable requests include a supplementary grant of Rs5.9 billion for the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) and an additional grant of Rs4.8 billion for the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
Furthermore, the ECC will review a proposal from the Ministry of National Food Security to increase Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation’s (Passco) wheat procurement target for 2024 from 1.4 million tonnes to 1.8 million tonnes, aiming to alleviate farmers’ challenges, especially in Punjab.
