KARACHI: In a historic event, the MSC Anna, the largest container vessel ever to dock in Pakistan, arrived at South Asia Pakistan Terminals (SAPT) on Wednesday. The vessel, with an impressive overall length of 400 meters and a capacity of 19,368 TEUs, marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s maritime history, announced by Karachi Port Trust (KPT).

The docking of MSC Anna at SAPT was overseen by Rear Admiral Rizwan Ahmed, General Manager of Operations. Hutchison Ports Pakistan, which operates the terminal, celebrated the arrival of MSC Anna, emphasizing the terminal’s advanced capabilities and strategic importance in the region.

“This milestone underscores Hutchison Ports Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing the country’s maritime industry,” stated CS Kim, CEO of Hutchison Ports Pakistan. “Our terminal, as Pakistan’s only deep-water container facility, is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure to manage ultra-large container vessels seamlessly. Hosting MSC Anna, with its 400-meter length and 19,368 TEU capacity, exemplifies our ability to handle the largest ships efficiently.”

Previously, the terminal handled vessels with capacities up to 14,000 TEUs and lengths of 366 meters. The arrival of MSC Anna is expected to reduce shipping costs and significantly boost government revenue through increased port activities and trade. This milestone highlights the terminal’s crucial role in strengthening Pakistan’s position in global trade and contributing to the nation’s economic growth.
