KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a 24-hour suspension of gas supply to nearly half of Karachi, starting Sunday morning, to facilitate the installation of a new pipeline in the city’s western region.
In a statement issued on Friday, the gas utility detailed the undertaking of hook-ups for a 24-inch diameter, 31-kilometer pipeline from SMS ACPL to DMS Surjani in Karachi. “To carry out this vital task, gas will be temporarily shut down from Sunday, July 28, 2024, 5 am, till Monday, July 29, 2024, 5 am,” the statement said.
The planned shutdown will affect areas in the western region, including Surjani Town (all sectors), North Karachi (all sectors), Manghopir Town, Qasba Town, Orangi Town (all sectors), North Nazimabad (all blocks), FB Area (all blocks), Gulberg (all blocks), Buffer Zone, SITE Industrial Area, Baldia Town, Ittehad Town, and Mauripur.
Additionally, supply may be impacted in the central region, affecting Gulshan-e-Maymar, Ahsanabad, Janjar Goth, and SITE Super Highway.
The company has invested Rs3.86 billion in laying down the dedicated pipeline, which aims to supply gas at the required high pressure to industrial zones while maintaining low-pressure supply to residential and commercial areas.
“The project will segregate the low-pressure domestic and commercial consumers from high-pressure industrial consumers of SITE and Hub Industrial Areas,” the statement added.
