ISLAMABAD, August 13, 2024: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan’s largest petroleum exploration and production company, on Tuesday announced a major gas discovery from its exploratory well Chak 202—1 in the Mari East Block, located in Rahim Yar Khan district of Punjab.
The exploratory well Chak 202—1 was spudded on June 29, 2024, utilizing OGDCL’s in-house expertise and cutting-edge technology. The well was drilled to a depth of 1956.50 meters. Results from wireline logs interpretation and Drill Stem Test-1 (Barefoot) in the Sui Main Limestone (SML) have confirmed a gas flow rate of 6.15 Million Standard Cubic Feet Per Day (MMSCFD) through a choke size of 32/64″ at a Well Head Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 1340 Pounds per Square Inch (Psi).
This discovery marks the second consecutive success in the Mari East Block, underscoring OGDCL’s commitment to unlocking the hydrocarbon potential of the region through a robust and aggressive exploration strategy. The discovery will significantly contribute to bridging the energy demand-supply gap in the country by augmenting indigenous resources and will expand the hydrocarbon reserves base of both OGDCL and Pakistan.
OGDCL, the Operator of the Mari East Exploration Licence, has intensified its exploratory efforts and is planning to drill three to four more wells in the Mari East Block to enhance the country’s energy security. The company is at the forefront of Pakistan’s energy sector, driving sustainable growth through strategic exploration and development initiatives.
