Karachi: The Sindh cabinet has approved allotting 250 acres of land in the Manjhand area in District Jamshoro for setting up a solar park having a generation capacity of 500 MWs of clean electricity.
The provincial cabinet, whose meeting was chaired by the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, also approved allotting 612 acres of land in District Central of Karachi for a solar park of 120 MWs generation capacity. The cabinet also approved the project of setting up a solar park having a production capacity of 150 MWs on 600 acres of land in District Malir of Karachi.
The Sindh will likely become the first province in Pakistan to engage in the simultaneous construction of multiple utility-scale solar parks under a public-private partnership mode. The solar parks are being established to tap the massive renewable energy generation potential of Sindh and also to ensure uninterrupted power supply to power consumers in domestic, industrial, and commercial consumers at the most affordable rates.
The setting up of utility-scale solar parks is also one of the components of the World Bank-funded Sindh Solar Energy Project also being executed to maximise the use of clean electricity in the province.
