ISLAMABAD: The government is likely to cancel the 300 MW imported coal power project in Gwadar as the Chinese firm, CIHC Pak Power Company (Pvt) Ltd (CPPCL), has yet to make significant progress. Sources from the Private Power & Infrastructure Board (PPIB) revealed that CPPCL is demanding a further upward revision in tariff before moving ahead.

PPIB Managing Director, Shah Jahan Mirza, has issued a final deadline to CPPCL, asking for a firm decision by September 18, 2024, or risk the government taking alternate action.

The project has faced multiple delays since the issuance of the Letter of Support (LoS) in August 2019, with the Financial Closing deadline extended six times. Despite government support and tariff revisions from Nepra, construction has yet to commence, putting the future of the project in doubt.
