ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has fined the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) Rs10 million for failing to meet earthing and grounding requirements for its high-tension and low-tension poles and structures.
The penalty follows Gepco’s unsatisfactory response to a show-cause notice during a hearing on May 13, 2024. Nepra criticised Gepco’s delayed approach, highlighting fatalities caused by current leakages from ungrounded steel structures. The regulatory body ordered Gepco to ground all remaining steel structures within three months and complete the grounding of PCC poles within a year, warning of further penalties for non-compliance. The fine must be paid within 15 days, or Nepra may take legal action under Section 41 of the Nepra Act.
