Sindh Energy Minister Briefs French Envoy on Renewable Energy Projects

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Energy, Development, and Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, met with French Ambassador Nicolas Galey and his delegation at the Energy Department office on Thursday. During the meeting, key discussions were held on alternative energy projects and mutual cooperation.

Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, along with the Energy Department Secretary, provided an overview of various renewable energy initiatives in Sindh, highlighting the province’s rich resources for domestic and international investment. He emphasized Sindh’s vast Thar coal reserves, which have been validated by global institutes as suitable for gasification.

The Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC), led by CEO Saleem Sheikh, was also mentioned as the first provincial grid company, tasked with developing 132KV power transmission infrastructure. Additionally, the Sindh Solar Energy Project, spearheaded by Mahfouz Qazi under the guidance of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, aims to provide free electricity to residents and affordable solar power to industries in the region.

Minister Shah also briefed the delegation on the aftermath of the 2022 floods, which devastated 2.1 million homes and affected over 8 million people in Sindh. He expressed gratitude for the French government’s support during the crisis.

Ambassador Galey praised Sindh’s ongoing alternative energy initiatives and expressed interest in potential investments in waste-to-energy, coal, solar, and wind energy projects in Thar. The meeting concluded with Minister Shah presenting traditional Sindhi gifts, including the Ajrak and cap, to the French delegation.
