Karachi – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, along with provincial ministers Sharjeel Memon, Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani, Ali Hassan Zardari, and Waqar Mehdi, inaugurated a significant solar power project at the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Ojha Campus Hospital. This initiative, launched under the Sindh Solar Energy Project (SSEP) with support from the World Bank, is a major step towards integrating sustainable energy in healthcare facilities.

The solar project will generate 2.32 MW of power at an estimated cost of PKR 290 million. According to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the project is expected to pay for itself within 2.5 years of operation, with a total lifespan of 25 years. It is projected to save the provincial government PKR 187.11 million annually.

The hospital’s total energy demand is 7.58 MW, and this solar power system has already transitioned 12 out of 27 buildings on the campus to renewable energy. This initiative underscores the Sindh government’s commitment to promoting green energy and reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.
