ISLAMABAD: The two major gas utilities in Pakistan—Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL)—have requested an increase of up to 54% in prescribed gas prices to address revenue shortfalls for the current fiscal year (FY25).
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will conduct public hearings for these proposals, with SNGPL’s hearing set for November 5 and SSGCL’s for November 8. SNGPL has applied for a 3.66% hike, translating to an additional Rs64.16 per mmBtu, while SSGCL is seeking a significant 53.5% increase, or Rs669 per mmBtu.
SNGPL’s petition, filed on October 15 and amended on October 18, projects a revenue deficit of Rs20.582 billion, including Rs489 million for the LPG Air Mix Project. The proposed increase would raise SNGPL’s average prescribed price from Rs1,746.22 to Rs1,810.38 per mmBtu, while SSGCL’s proposal would boost its average rate from Rs1,251.32 to Rs1,920.39 per mmBtu.
SSGCL’s request also includes Rs643 billion in previous years’ unrecouped shortfalls, seeking recovery of Rs3,073.91 per mmBtu for those costs, in addition to the proposed FY25 adjustments.
