Abu Dhabi, UAE – His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and ADNOC Managing Director, hosted 80 global leaders in energy, technology, climate, and finance at the ENACT Majlis, a gathering aimed at advancing sustainable energy partnerships to support AI’s rapid growth. Rooted in the Emirati tradition of open dialogue, the Majlis provided a collaborative platform for discussing strategies at the intersection of AI, energy, and climate.
H.E. Dr. Al Jaber emphasized the need for cross-sector collaboration to meet AI’s increasing power demands, with AI data center energy needs projected to reach 150 GW by 2030 and 330 GW by 2040. Participants stressed that a balanced mix of nuclear, gas, and renewables is essential for sustaining AI’s expansion and achieving a net-zero future. The Majlis also highlighted an estimated $600 billion in annual investments and major power grid upgrades required by 2040 to support these goals.
Discussions centered on AI’s role in optimizing energy production and reducing emissions, with financing solutions explored to drive equitable and sustainable energy transitions globally. The event followed the release of the joint report “Powering Possible: AI and Energy for a Sustainable Future,” by ADNOC, Masdar, and Microsoft, offering insights from 400 thought leaders on AI’s potential to reshape energy systems.
The ENACT Majlis convened on the eve of ADIPEC 2024 in Abu Dhabi, the world’s premier energy industry event, drawing leaders including Microsoft’s Brad Smith, Shell’s Wael Sawan, and EDF’s Luc Remont, among others.
