KARACHI: Internet users across Pakistan, particularly in Karachi and other major cities, are experiencing severe connectivity issues as slow internet speeds continue to disrupt daily life.
The sluggish internet has made sending and receiving multimedia messages on platforms like WhatsApp challenging, impacting both Wi-Fi and mobile data services. Those most affected include freelancers, digital marketers, students, and individuals working from home, as their productivity and learning are significantly hindered.
In Karachi, areas such as Saddar, Liaquatabad, FB Area, and Gulistan-e-Jauhar are reporting severe slowdowns and, in some cases, complete Wi-Fi outages. These disruptions are also affecting businesses reliant on stable internet for operations.
Industry reports estimate that the telecom sector, which generates approximately Rs3 billion in daily revenue, is suffering significant losses due to the slow connectivity. With 3G and 4G networks accounting for nearly 70% of the sector’s earnings, the disruptions are severely impacting Pakistan’s economy, costing billions of rupees daily.
This crisis underscores the urgent need for Pakistan to prioritize strengthening its digital infrastructure to support remote work, online education, and digital businesses in a rapidly digitizing world.
