ISLAMABAD: Poland’s Ambassador, Maciej Pisarski, announced that the Polish Oil and Gas Company (POGC) plans to double its investments in Pakistan in the coming years, building on its current $450 million commitment.
Speaking to the media, Ambassador Pisarski emphasized POGC’s long-standing presence in Pakistan. Operating through its Pakistan branch since 1997, the company has been actively exploring and producing gas, particularly in the Kirthar concession since 2005. It has made three significant tight gas discoveries—Rehman, Rizq, and Rayyan fields—pioneering unconventional gas extraction in the country.
The ambassador revealed that POGC recently obtained a concession to explore the Baran gas field, positioning the company to significantly expand its operations and investments. However, he stressed that timely payments for delivered gas remain crucial for sustained success, a matter the company and the Polish Embassy continue to address with the Pakistani government.
Highlighting economic ties, Pisarski noted that Poland-Pakistan trade had grown from €456.74 million in 2018 to €861 million in 2023. Initiatives like the GreenEvo mission, which brought Polish green technology to Pakistan, underscore Poland’s commitment to fostering bilateral economic relations.
The ambassador also acknowledged Pakistan’s election to the UN Security Council for 2025-2026, expressing confidence in its role in promoting global peace. He praised Pakistan’s contributions to UN peacekeeping missions and recalled moments of mutual support, including during the Ukraine crisis and the Kabul evacuation in 2021.
Pisarski highlighted Poland’s remarkable economic transformation since 1989, boasting a GDP growth of over 826% and its emergence as Europe’s fastest-growing upper-middle-income economy. Despite the strain of the Ukraine conflict, Poland has provided $5 million in aid to vulnerable populations in 2024 alone.
Reaffirming Poland’s stance against Russian aggression in Ukraine, the ambassador condemned the involvement of North Korean troops in the conflict, labeling it a “colonial war.” He underscored Poland’s extensive military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, amounting to over 4.91% of its GDP.
Calling for a stable and transparent economic environment, Ambassador Pisarski reiterated Poland’s dedication to fostering stronger economic and diplomatic ties with Pakistan, built on six decades of mutual respect and cooperation.
