K-Electric Seeks Rs 4.98/kWh Relief for November FCA

KARACHI: K-Electric has submitted a provisional monthly Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA) request for November 2024, proposing a relief of Rs 4.98 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for its customers.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will conduct a public hearing on January 15, 2025, to determine the FCA amount and specify the period for its application in customer bills.

In a related development, the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guaranteed (CPPA-G) has sought a negative adjustment of 0.63 paisa per unit in XWDiscos’ tariffs for November. Notably, this marks the third consecutive month of FCA benefits for K-Electric customers, following reductions of 0.16 paisa and 0.27 paisa per unit for September and October, respectively.

Fuel charge adjustments are influenced by global fluctuations in fuel prices and changes in the generation mix. When global fuel prices rise, the costs are reflected in higher customer bills, while declining prices provide relief through reduced FCAs.

All FCAs are calculated in line with regulatory guidelines and implemented in customer bills only after NEPRA’s thorough scrutiny and approval. This adjustment aims to offer tangible financial relief to electricity consumers in Karachi.
