Koto Hydropower Project Set to Begin Operations This Year

The Koto Hydropower Project in Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is nearing completion and is expected to commence power generation later this year. The project will produce 40.8 megawatts of affordable electricity, contributing significantly to the province’s energy needs.

Special Assistant to the KP Chief Minister on Energy, Tariq Mehmood Sadozai, highlighted the project’s importance during an emergency visit to the site. After inspecting the progress, he expressed satisfaction with the pace of work but urged the field staff to expedite the remaining tasks to ensure timely completion.

Project Director Sultan Rum provided an update, explaining that challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, including delays in procuring machinery, had caused slight setbacks. Despite these hurdles, the project has made steady progress.

The successful completion of the Koto Hydropower Project will mark the beginning of a transformative era for the province, enhancing its economic stability and energy independence while improving the livelihoods of its people.
