PPL Commences Gas Production from Takri-1 Well in Jamshoro

New-PPL

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced the start of gas production from the Takri-1 exploratory well in Jamshoro, Sindh. The development was disclosed in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

The Kotri North Joint Venture, consisting of United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) as the operator with a 50% working interest, along with PPL (40%) and Asia Resources Oil Limited (10%), achieved this milestone by tapping into the hydrocarbon potential of Takri-1.

Key Highlights:

Exploration Details: Takri-1 was spudded on November 11, 2024, and drilled to a depth of 4,156 ft, targeting late Cretaceous and early Paleocene sands.
Production Capacity: The well is producing approximately 5.3 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas with a flowing wellhead pressure of 950 psig on a 32/64-inch choke size.
Processing and Supply: Gas from Takri-1 is being processed at UEPL’s Aliabad Production Facility for supply to Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL).
This addition to the national gas distribution network is expected to help bridge the demand-supply gap amidst the country’s ongoing energy crisis.

Last November, PPL reported significant increases in hydrocarbon production due to operational enhancements. However, its profit-after-tax (PAT) for the quarter ending September 30, 2024, dropped by 24%, totaling Rs22.69 billion.

The commencement of Takri-1’s production underscores PPL’s commitment to bolstering domestic energy resources and addressing Pakistan’s energy challenges.
