KARACHI: Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC), Pakistan’s largest exploration and production (E&P) firm, has officially started oil and gas production from its Kharo-1 well in Khairpur, Sindh. The company made this announcement in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday.
The Kharo-1 well is currently producing 20 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and five million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas. The production has been connected to the OGDC Sinjhoro Processing Plant via a 6-inch, 12.5 km flow line, with the gas seamlessly integrated into the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) network.
OGDC holds a 95 percent working interest in the Khewari Block, with the remaining 5 percent owned by Government Holding Private Limited (GHPL).
“This achievement underscores OGDCL’s commitment to operational excellence and its pivotal role in strengthening Pakistan’s energy landscape,” the company stated.
This milestone follows OGDC’s recent success at the Kunnar West Well-3 in Hyderabad district, Sindh, where production commenced last month.
As Pakistan’s largest E&P company, OGDC holds the most extensive exploration acreage in the country, covering over 40 percent of the total awarded acreage. The company’s operations span exploration, drilling, reservoir management, production, and engineering services, significantly contributing to Pakistan’s energy supply.
The government of Pakistan owns a majority stake of over 67 percent in OGDC, with the remainder held by the OGDC Employee Empowerment Trust and the Privatisation Commission of Pakistan.
