Islamabad: Efforts are underway to ease the financial burden on electricity consumers across the country.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has proposed allowing consumers to pay their electricity bills in multiple installments within a single fiscal year. This initiative aims to address consumer difficulties while balancing the revenue requirements of distribution companies (DISCOs).
NEPRA has also recommended amendments to the Consumer Service Manual (CSM) and invited feedback from stakeholders within seven days regarding the proposed changes.
According to the documents, consumers will not incur markup charges if the first installment is paid on time. However, DISCOs will be permitted to charge a 14% markup on installments.
NEPRA previously amended the Consumer Service Manual in June 2024, allowing only one installment option per fiscal year. The latest proposal seeks to expand this facility, providing greater financial flexibility for electricity consumers.
