WAPDA Awards Consultancy Contract for Hydraulic Research and Training Institute

Lahore – WAPDA has awarded a consultancy services contract worth Rs. 116.908 million to Associated Consulting Engineers Limited (ACE) for the procurement of unified master planning, engineering design, construction supervision, and contract administration for the Hydraulic Model Research and Training Institute at Chichoki Malian, Sheikhupura. The project is set to be completed in two and a half years.

The contract signing ceremony took place at WAPDA House, where General Manager (Hydro Planning) WAPDA, Dr. Khawar Munir, and Regional Head North-ACE, Ghulam Arif Khan, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. The event was attended by WAPDA Member Water Jawaid Akhtar Latif, General Manager (C&M) Water Muhammad Azam Joya, and other senior officials.

The institute’s scope includes establishing physical hydraulic model construction facilities for research and testing, geo-tech modeling, hydropower model testing, and laboratories specializing in geo-tech, hydraulics, sedimentation, and hydropower. Additionally, the project will feature a water resources and hydropower training institute, a modern workshop, a library, office buildings, hostels, a rest house, and a staff colony.

WAPDA aims to develop a state-of-the-art facility for hydraulic model studies of dams, canals, and barrages, ensuring adherence to international standards. The institute will also be available for model studies conducted by organizations beyond WAPDA. With future expansions, Pakistan is set to become self-sufficient in conducting both physical and numerical modeling of essential water infrastructure.
