DISCOs Seek 30-Paisa Per Unit Tariff Reduction for February FCA

ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers may see a 30-paisa per unit reduction in power tariffs as distribution companies (DISCOs) have requested a downward adjustment in fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for February 2025.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has scheduled a public hearing on March 26 at NEPRA Tower, with online access available for stakeholders. The request, filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G) on behalf of DISCOs, proposes a reduction of Rs0.2984 per unit, bringing the FCA below the reference fuel cost of Rs8.5276 per unit.

February 2025 Power Generation Breakdown:

🔹 Major Contributors:

Hydropower: 27.12%
Nuclear: 26.59%
Local Coal: 15.02%
RLNG-Based Power: 14.11%
🔹 Other Sources:
Imported Coal: 1.56%
Wind: 2.50%
Solar: 1.22%
🔹 Net Power Delivered to DISCOs: 6,666 GWh at an average fuel cost of Rs8.2292 per unit.
NEPRA has invited all concerned stakeholders to submit objections or feedback, either in writing or verbally, during the hearing. The NEPRA Act, regulations, and CPPA-G’s petition are available for public review on the NEPRA website.
