ISLAMABAD – In a major shake-up at the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), seven top officials have been removed from their posts due to project delays, inefficiencies, and overall poor performance. The action was taken on the directive of Federal Minister for Power, Sardar Awais Leghari, who recently voiced serious concerns over the lack of progress on key energy infrastructure projects.
According to a statement issued by the Power Division, those removed include Deputy Managing Director (Planning) Qaiser Khan, Chief Financial Officer Waseem Saadar Sheikh, two general managers, and three chief engineers. These officials have been placed as Officers on Special Duty (OSD) pending further inquiry. Among those dismissed is General Manager Nisar Akhtar.
Meanwhile, Chief Engineers Sajjad Haider Syed and Sohail Mumtaz Bajwa, despite being removed from their roles in Planning and Human Resource departments, have been assigned the current charge of general managers.
Additionally, Shahid Shafi Sial has been assigned the additional charge of General Manager at Lahore, while Mohammad Rafique will oversee the Hyderabad region. These appointments are interim, set for a period of three months or until permanent replacements are made. Bajwa will also continue his responsibilities as General Manager of Human Resources.
The move reflects the government’s intent to reform NTDC’s management and accelerate work on critical power sector projects across the country
