LAHORE – In a move to boost transparency and reduce billing disputes, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) is set to roll out a new mobile application allowing consumers to submit their own electricity meter readings.
The initiative, titled ‘Apna Meter, Apni Reading’, was announced by LESCO Chief Executive Officer Ramzan Butt during his recent address at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. While technical details and visuals of the app remain under wraps, the official launch is expected soon.
“The survival of the country is directly linked to the viability of the power sector,” said Butt, emphasizing the initiative’s importance. He highlighted the deployment of a Rapid Response Force to ensure swift restoration of power during outages and natural disruptions.
Addressing public concerns, Butt denied widespread overbilling and meter faults, stating that LESCO is resolving complaints, replacing faulty meters, and processing new connections at consumers’ doorsteps. He also assured business leaders that their role in sustaining the energy sector is critical, with special measures being implemented to avoid power tripping on industrial feeders.
Responding to legal concerns, Butt confirmed that safeguards are in place to prevent unwarranted FIRs against consumers. He added that meter readers are now directly responsible for monitoring meter performance to eliminate misunderstandings caused by lack of awareness among users.
LESCO also confirmed that operational efficiency remains unaffected, with no current material shortages reported.
