The government has decided to give charge of the Water and Power Development Authority chairman to Mr Naveed Asghar (Wapda’s member finance), as a summary has been moved to the office of the prime minister and the cabinet division in this regard.
“After resignation of retired Lt-Gen Muzammil Hussain, the ministry of water resources has moved a summary to the PM office for giving charge of the office of the chairman to member finance, Naveed Asghar. Hopefully, it will be approved by the cabinet in its meeting tentatively scheduled for Wednesday,” an official source in Wapda told Dawn on Sunday.
The official said the summary also mentions the need for filling the post on officiating basis by appointing Mr Asghar after Mr Hussain’s resignation in-writing appended with it. “In the same meeting Mr Hussain’s resignation will also be accepted,” he said.
It may be mentioned that Mr Hussain, citing personal reasons, tendered his resignation from the job on Saturday after serving in the office for more than five years. He was appointed as Wapda chairman on Aug 24, 2016 by the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif, replacing Zafar Mahmood. Mr Hussain’s contract expired on Aug 24 last year, but the PTI-led federal government granted him an extension for another five years.
