Government Urged to Prioritize Energy Sector Improvement, Says Malik Khuda Bakhsh

Karachi (March 13, 2024): Malik Khuda Bakhsh, convener of the FPCCI Central Standing Committee on Energy 2024-2025, emphasized the crucial need for the new government, led by Mian Shahbaz Sharif, to promptly address energy sector challenges. Speaking at the second meeting of the FPCCI Energy Committee, Bakhsh highlighted the committee’s intent to formulate impactful proposals aimed at bolstering the energy industry under the guidance of FPCCI President Atif Ikram Shaikh.

Attended by prominent business leaders and technocrats, including representatives from OGRA, PSO, and Shell Pakistan, among others, the meeting delved into discussions on optimizing existing energy resources, exploring new avenues, and evaluating various suggestions.

Bakhsh affirmed the Energy Committee’s commitment to collaborating with the government and relevant entities to surmount energy sector hurdles, expressing confidence in Pakistan’s potential to progress in energy development.

He outlined plans to address areas for improvement in duty structures, sales tax, and other taxes, advocating for reduced duties on imported goods to bolster the local industry and generate employment opportunities. Bakhsh disclosed the establishment of a technical committee to review member proposals, with final recommendations slated for submission to President FPCCI Atif Ikram Shaikh.

The FPCCI Energy Committee stands poised to facilitate constructive dialogue and strategic interventions to catalyze energy sector advancement in Pakistan.
