AD Ports Group to Invest $220 Million in Karachi Container Terminal

Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and AD Ports Group recently inked a 50-year concession deal for a container terminal at East Wharf, Karachi Port, following a similar agreement for a bulk and general cargo terminal. This collaboration, signed in June 2023, underscores a shared commitment to bolster Karachi’s status as a pivotal maritime hub.

During an iftar dinner hosted by Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited (KGTL) at a local hotel, Raheel Monis, the Manager of Marketing and Commercial at Karachi Gateway Terminal, expressed KGTL’s dedication to port development. Monis revealed that AD Ports Group is set to inject $220 million into the container terminal over the next decade. Additionally, $175 million will be allocated to the multi-purpose terminal, reflecting a robust belief in Karachi’s potential as a global trade gateway.

This strategic partnership between Ports Group and KPT is poised to unlock fresh avenues for economic growth and trade expansion not just for Karachi but for the entire region. Monis emphasized that these investments signal the start of a transformative era in collaboration and development at Karachi Port, ushering in significant advancements in the maritime sector and fostering a climate of cooperation and investment.
