ISLAMABAD: National Engineering Services Pakistan (Pvt) Limited (NESPAK) has celebrated the successful high-potential (Hi-Pot) testing of the 500kV transmission line for the 884MW Suki Kinari hydropower project, marking a significant milestone achieved within the designated timeframe.

In a letter to the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), NESPAK extended its congratulations on the completion of the Hi-Pot testing on June 27, 2024. This accomplishment is considered a major milestone for all stakeholders involved in delivering affordable electricity to the public of Pakistan.

NESPAK highlighted the design and engineering challenges overcome during the construction of the transmission line through difficult terrain. Despite the pandemic and local weather conditions, NTDC’s efforts were recognized as an engineering marvel.

Nadeem Ashraf, Executive Vice President and head of the Power and Mechanical Division at NESPAK, praised the dedication and leadership of NTDC’s General Manager (Project Delivery North) Arif Khan, Chief Engineer (EHV-I) North Asghar Mujtaba Khan Niazi, and their teams. He also acknowledged the commitment of the contractor, CEEC NEPC-II, and its representatives, M.K Engineers & Constructors, as well as the subcontractors for their relentless efforts.

The Power Division emphasized that logistical challenges and local accessibility were critical factors in the project’s success. The contractor’s innovative methods, including avoiding the construction of a bridge and cable cars, saved time and resources, setting a new benchmark for future projects.

The Suki Kinari project was first envisioned in 1960, with feasibility studies conducted by German GTZ, Quebec-based Montreal Engineering, and a detailed design and engineering study by Mott MacDonald of England.
