ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain announced Pakistan’s plan to set up 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide by 2030. This initiative aims to reduce fuel imports, lower carbon emissions, and support eco-friendly transportation.
Speaking at an exhibition by the Engineering Development Board (EDB), Hussain highlighted Pakistan’s shift to EVs, sharing that 31 companies have shown interest in the sector, with two already licensed to manufacture electric vehicles. He revealed that the second EV policy, expected by November 30, will enhance the framework set by the first policy.
Aligned with the EV policy, the Punjab government will provide subsidies for electric two- and three-wheelers, including a Rs4 billion allocation for electric motorcycles. In a bid to promote education and EV adoption, the government plans to award 100 electric bikes to students based on merit through a transparent bidding process.
Hussain underscored the private sector’s role in EV growth and local manufacturing, emphasizing that this transition will benefit Pakistan’s environment and economy.
