KARACHI: Over 50 Chinese companies have announced plans to invest $1.4 billion across Sindh’s healthcare, agriculture, energy, and transportation sectors, fostering economic growth and innovation.
The announcement was made during the Sindh Investment Conference, organized in collaboration with the Sindh government and Global Ventures. Meng Xiaowei, head of the Chinese delegation, and Muhammad Idrees Gigi, CEO of Global Ventures, highlighted key projects during a press briefing.
Major Investments Include:
Medical City in Dhabeji: A $1 billion, state-of-the-art medical facility to be developed over 300 acres, featuring research centers, pharmaceutical production units, and surgical equipment manufacturing. The three-phase project aims for completion in seven years.
Food Exports: Chinese companies plan to boost Pakistan’s food exports, targeting commodities like beef, mutton, and seafood, with potential annual exports reaching $5 billion within three years.
Electric Transport: Plans for 200 electric buses, 10,000 taxis, and a high-speed train between Karachi and Sukkur, reducing travel time to 2.5 hours.
Fertilizer Plant in Thar: A 200-acre facility utilizing advanced coal-powered technology.
Solar Panel Manufacturing: Production of 2.1 million solar panels for underprivileged communities, supporting energy access in remote regions.
Agriculture Development: Investments in fertilizers, seeds, and modern farming techniques to enhance Sindh’s agricultural output.
President Asif Ali Zardari assured Chinese investors of full cooperation, while Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qassim Naveed Qamar, emphasized Sindh’s strategic advantages and readiness to welcome international investments.
Provincial Ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon and Syed Nasir Hussain Shah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, sustainable growth, and industrialization, positioning Sindh as a premier investment destination.
The collaboration is expected to accelerate economic activity and strengthen bilateral ties between Pakistan and China.
