Nepra and GIZ Sign MoU to Strengthen Pakistan’s Power Sector

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance Pakistan’s energy sector with a focus on regulatory improvements and renewable energy integration.

The agreement was signed by Nepra Registrar Waseem Anwar Bhinder and GIZ Cluster Coordinator for Energy and Climate, Wolfgang Hesse.

Under the MoU, both organizations will collaborate on:

Developing a regulatory framework for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Enhancing the distribution code to support renewable energy, electric vehicles (EVs), and smart technologies.
Revising net metering regulations to promote sustainable energy adoption.
This partnership marks a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan’s energy landscape, ensuring a more resilient, efficient, and environmentally friendly power sector.
