April 17, 2025: The 6th Chairman WAPDA Amateur Golf Tournament commenced today at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club under the aegis of the WAPDA Sports Board. The tournament was formally inaugurated by Chairman WAPDA, Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd), as he ceremonially teed off to mark the beginning of the tournament.
WAPDA Member (Finance) Naveed Asghar Chaudhry, Member (Power) Muhammad Arfan, Member (Water) Syed Ali Akhtar Shah, WAPDA General Managers, WAPDA Sports Board officials and a number of golfers were present in the ceremony.
Highlighting the significance of sports, the Chairman said that we believe that nations and sports rise and fall together, which is why, WAPDA is playing a pivotal role in promotion of sports in the country. He said that WAPDA Sports Board has 65 teams of different games – 36 men and 29 women. With unwavering commitment and consistent support, WAPDA is currently reigning as the champion in 33 different games. This remarkable achievement is a testament to WAPDA’s dedication to nurturing talent, building character, and contributing to the nation’s pride through sports, he further said.
The 4-day tournament will bring together talented golfers from across the country. As per format of the tournament, matches will be played in the categories of amateurs, lady amateurs, senior amateurs, veterans and invitational. The tournament will be played on 54 holes for amateurs, 36 holes for senior amateurs and ladies, while 9 holes for veterans and invitational categories. Amateurs will have handicap of 12 and below, ladies 36 and below, senior amateurs will have 14 and below while veterans 18 and below.
